The flick-on is so called, because it is a simple flick of the head backwards to help the ball on its way off the centre of the forehead. Don't use the side or top of the head. When you finish the flick, you should be looking directly at the sky. Use the pace of the ball to guide it on its way; it is not a power header.
Timing is difficult with the flick-on, and it requires practice. Awareness of who is around you is vital, because it’s no use playing a flick-on to a ghost! If you use the flick-on at corners, it's a good idea to discuss the play with your team before the game.
